Love London's Cyclists

Sometimes, as we look at the causes of some of the problems facing cyclists, we forget to remember what a joy it can be.  As the weather warms up and more and more cyclists take to London's streets I've been out and about with my camera trying to capture them all.  We're so lucky here in London in that we get to cycle around places like Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the South Bank, Green Park, Trafalgar Square and, erm, Hackney, all of which feature in the video.  I hope this video celebrates cycling and furthermore shows non-cyclists how London can't do without us and better still why they should consider joining us.  Let me know what you think.

I really enjoyed that. It's good to be reminded how many of us there are (and what a difference we make to the city).

FANTASTIC video, Mark! Wow! I loved looking at all the different kinds of bikes and riders, the beautiful London landmarks, your fast and slow motion (especially that one slo-mo shot where the white van seems to be crawling and the cyclist flits on past).

Your figures are also a real eye-opener for us on the other side of the Atlantic: I think they reflect the true cost of petroleum-based transportation much more accurately than the heavily-subsidized costs I would pay to buy a transit pass, and I don't think any American city has congestion charges per se (even parking is subsidized by taxes in a lot of cities).

Thank you for this wonderful video. Terrific on every level!

Thanks all for your really kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Maybe I should have called the post "Why London needs it's cyclists" 'cos there's no way the roads and the public transport could pick up that kind of extra capacity.

Yes that is a nice video. Mark I think you should be commissioned by TfL or LCC to do a similar cycle promo video, preferably both!

Fantastic & informative video Mark - and excellent choice of soundtrack for it also Sir! :)

It's gorgeous to see so many people cycling around London like that and loving it - that's what it's all about!

Excellent video. I like the way it's full of joy so the facts don't come over as preachy.

I heard on another blog that one effective form of protest for London's cyclists would be that you have a (well publicised) non-cycling day where you use public transport or cars to get into the city, a sort of 'critical mass' in reverse.

Loved the vid, but way shocked to see so many peeps without helmet?! Even after cycling here for almost 10 years, I still feel London's streets are too dangerous to not wear helmets. I'm from Berlin where I feel more safe going sans helmet...

Anyway, keep up the great blogging work!
