Cycle style, slow bike races and your September cycling calendar

The nights may be drawing in and summer coming to a close, but the London cycling calendar is still packed with events on all things two wheeled...

City Cycle Style

This Friday, London's historic Smithfield Market plays host to the inaugural City Cycle Style event.  Hosted by the Corporation of London and curated by TWO n FRO's Karta Healy, an evening of fashion, food, live music and bicycles “celebrating cycling as a fashionable form of transport in the City” looks set to be an evening to remember.  Firmly positioning the bike as a functional, stylish form of transport open to all and available to everyone and with one foot firmly in the style-over-speed camp the event will showcase practical and stylish town bikes using "real life" riders and will celebrate the everyday and ordinary riding that this blog loves so much.  Dashing Tweeds, Bobbin Bicycles, Brooks, Pashley, Cycle Chic and many more will be there and cycle parking is available too.  Tickets are £5, available on the evening or by registering in advance here and there will be shows on the hour every hour from 7PM to 9PM. See you there - I'll be the one hoping to test ride a Pashley Roadster Sovereign!  Best of all, some of the proceeds are going to that excellent cycling charity Re-Cycle and they will also be on hand on the night to highlight their work.

ARTCRANK poster show at Look Mum No Hands!
Look Mum No Hands has rapidly become the place to be if you want to have a drink in the company of other cycle aficionados.  One of it's strengths are the diversity and range of events it hosts and this Friday and Saturday it becomes home to ARTCRANK Poster Show on it's first visit to the UK.  ARTCRANK showcases the talents of local designers inking up posters with a cycling bent and throwing a big party to boot.  The posters are reasonably priced and available to buy on the day.  If you're looking for something new to hang on your wall and love art and cycling, it's the place to be.

ARTCRANK runs on Friday from 19.00hrs till late and on Saturday the 18th from midday till 6PM. More details here.

RoadPeace one day conference "Improving the post-crash response in London"

RoadPeace, the cycle-friendly road safety charity are hosting an excellent conference on Wednesday the 22nd September at the Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre focussing on the post-crash response to road collisions in London.  With speakers representing the Metropolitan Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and 2012 mayoral candidate Ken Livingstone, the conference aims to explore recent developments in the investigation and prosecution of casualty collisions and the compensation and trauma care of casualties.  Anyone involved in campaigning for the safe passage of cyclists around our fair city should be there.
Tickets, and further details are here.

Prostate UK's Slow Bicycle Race
On Sunday 26th September national cancer charity Prostate UK are taking over trendy London Fields to host their first ever Slow Bicycle Race.  The rules are simple; he who looses, wins!  It's £10 to enter and participants may take as many chances as they like at completing a 10 metre course as slowly as they can without putting a foot down or stopping (no trackstanding hipsters - that's cheating!)  All proceeds go to Prostate UK and their vital research work and funding medical professionals in the fight against cancer.  Pedal your way (slowly!) over here for further details.

Cycle Show 2010 at Earls Court
It's that time of year again - the annual Cycle Show takes up it's residency at the Earls Court to introduce the best in new bikes, cycling products and recent developments.  There will be a commuter test track to try all the bikes you can feast your eyes on, and a new arena dedicated to adaptive bikes for disabled cyclists and the commercial zone with more accessories than you can shake an SPD shoe at.  Tickets and further info over here.
